Bookkeeper Resumes
As a Bookkeeper, you will have many different skills which are required to do the job. When it comes to applying for positions, it is important that your Bookkeeper Resume and cover letter highlight all of those skills.
Start off with a Bookkeeper cover letter. This should indicate that you want to apply for the position, but it also needs to explain why you should be considered. Drop some information in, such as any skills which will put you to the top of the pile such as a strong understanding of sage or a similar program, or any qualifications such as a degree in accounting. You should also mention how many years experience you have in the field to show that you have the necessary experience for the position.
With the Bookkeeper cover letter out of the way, you can move onto the main event – the Bookkeeper Resume. This resume needs to show you to be a top bookkeeper who has all of the attributes needed to do the job efficiently and easily. Start off this process by writing a strong objective statement. This statement should highlight where you see your career going, based on what you have done before and the job description of the position you are applying for here. You can use this section to your advantage by using some of your skills as reasoning tools. For example, you could say that thanks to your ability to understand taxation laws you are able to save clients money, and as such you hope that your skills will see you progress to management position within the Bookkeeping department. Keep the sentence brief and to the point though.
The following section of your Bookkeeper Resume should focus on your skills. Bullet point this list, and make sure you include everything that makes you a good bookkeeper. You can list your word processing skills, your ability to work well with numbers, your proficiency with bookkeeping programs such as Sage, your experience dealing with companies with large and complicated turnovers, and your ability to provide and process end of month reporting. Also mention the number of years you have spent in the field of bookkeeping.
The next section should focus on your education. This section should not focus on your general education, but specifically your degree, or any specific qualification you have for bookkeeping or for accounting. A degree is best but there are plenty of vocational courses which you can take to qualify you for a bookkeeping position. If you do not have one of these it is highly recommended that you take one to be sure that you have a great chance of finding a position. Although you will not be discussing all qualifications, if you have good Math results you should mention this.
The final section of your Bookkeeping Resume should be about your working experience. Start with your most recent position and work backwards. Discuss the size of the companies you have done bookkeeping for, in terms of the financial turnover and profitability so that any prospective employer can get an idea of the sorts of figures you can manage on your own. You should also mention any work you did which is sometimes considered beyond the means of a bookkeeper, such as tax issues and end of year accounts.
