Builder Resumes
As a builder there is a good chance that you have specialised in a certain area of your trade, but one thing ties all builder positions together – they all require excellently written Builder Resume and cover letters. Try to make sure your resume and cover letter really explain what you can do in this field of work, and be sure to talk yourself up.
You should start off with a Builder cover letter. This document should show that you would like to apply for the job, and why you think you will be suitable. Prior experience in a similar role and qualifications will be key to illustrate your beliefs here.
With your Builder cover letter completed, you will of course move on to your resume. Your Builder Resume should start off with an objective. This statement needs to highlight the sort of work you want to do, and it should match the job description of the position you are applying for. You should indicate that you want to progress for example your drywall skills with a well thought of company and hope to earn the opportunity to further increase your already sound understanding of construction management. By saying something like this, you are showing that you have the capabilities to move into a management position yet you are still happy to learn more, which shows a good level of enthusiasm.
The next section of your Builder Resume should highlight your skills. Make this a bullet pointed section, and list your skills. You should be mentioning your ability to work with different types of equipment, and be sure to mention licences to operate certain types of machinery. You should discuss your skills in carpentry, masonry, any technical skills you may have such as proposal development and site supervision, and you should mention how many years overall you have been in the industry.
Follow this section with a section highlighting your career to date. This should run in reverse order starting with your most recent position. You should mention your key duties in the job, and any responsibility you have had. If you have focused your career on carpentry then you should indicate what progress you have made in this vein. You may have started out as a trainee, but by now you may have progressed to that of a supervisory carpenter, with several employees working beneath you. Make sure you make this clear in your Builder Resume.
The final section of your Builder Resume should be dedicated to all of the qualifications and certificates you have achieved both before and during your builder career. Start with the most recent, which will likely be a certificate enabling you to operate a particular piece of machinery on site, and work backwards. Things like Forklift operation, and any other machinery licences will be particularly valued by potential employees. If you have focused on a specific area of building, make sure you go into detail about your qualifications for this job. If you are a stone mason, explain how you trained for the position, and go into detail about what you had to do to obtain the qualification.
