No matter what you industry or profession is, there is always room to make yourself more marketable through training and education. This could mean getting an advanced degree while you work, in your chosen industry or taking a class in a specific topic of your industry; but either way, keeping yourself and your skills honed through constant education and training makes you a more valuable employee and also a more marketable candidate for other positions. Moreover, it keeps you working and thinking and growing; when your particular job may not be challenging you in these ways; and a working mind is priceless.

In keeping with staying marketable through training and education in your industry, it is necessary to also have your finger on the pulse of the industry happenings as well. You should have an idea of what is happening in your field, the innovations and improvements, as well as how it may be integrating with other industries. You can easily do this by joining an industry specific professional club or association in your field and/or subscribing to industry publications by email or print mail. This way, when someone in your field, company, or a hiring company asks you about the future of your industry and your place in it; you will be well-versed to answer. This shows not only interest and enthusiasm in the profession you have chosen; but also, makes you a much more valuable candidate for promotions and other positions.
