Collector Resumes
Most people who work in collection deal with debt collection. This can be a particularly tough industry to work in, but with good financial rewards to good workers, there are plenty of people willing to do the work. You need a particular set of skills for this sort of job, but one of the most critical things you can do to give yourself a chance of landing a role, is to use your negotiating skills, which are so important in your job as a collector, to create a great Collector Resume and cover letter.
You should start things off with a well written and formal Collector cover letter. Formally apply for the job, and mention some reasons why you think you should be considered. This might be prior experience, or it might be that you feel that you have the right types of characteristics for the position.
Once you have completed your Collector cover letter, you should get started with the Collector Resume. This resume should begin with an objective. Study the job description carefully, and show that you understand what is being asked of you. If you are going for a door to door role, you should be saying that you would relish the opportunity to actively explore your ability to negotiate collection fees with customers at their homes, and look forward to a successful spell prior to moving into management. There is nothing wrong with indicating this sort of ambition, as most collector companies do have possibilities of career progression.
The following section should be a list of your skills that make you suitable for the job. This would be any years experience you have in the industry, and any particular skills you have which you think will put you in good stead for this job. This would be things like great negotiating skills, any self defence qualifications, because it can be a difficult job in this regard. You can also list any negotiating courses that you have attended in the past, your ability to be able to get on with a wide spread of people, your understanding of local and regional laws regarding the entering of people’s homes in these circumstances, and your trustworthiness with money.
Your Collector Resume should also have a section dedicated to your working experience. If you have experience as a collector then you should obviously focus your information on that. Mention what exactly you were expected to do in your last position, whether you were collecting by phone, or on foot at people’s houses, whether or not you were collecting on behalf of many different companies or for one specific company. You can also discuss ways in which you were able to negotiate with the clients in order to reach an amicable agreement about the debt to be collected.
The last section of your Collector Resume should focus on your qualifications. There are few actual qualifications directly for this sort of work, but there are many that would aid your chances of landing a role. Any negotiation course will help, as will financial courses or qualifications. If you have a financial background this will put you in particularly good stead for finding work. If you don’t have too many relevant qualifications then make sure you list all of your other qualifications because you will find that there are some strains of all of your qualifications that somehow relate to the position of a collector.
