A computer programmer performs a variety of tasks depending on the industry and the company with which he/she is employed. A Computer programmer’s most basic function is to communicate with the computer systems using highly technical mode of communication-otherwise known as coding or programming-and in doing so, plan, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot computer applications and systems.

Computer programmers are a very valued resource in both the private and public sector, and can be employed in a wide variety of positions-both specialized and general-depending on the interests of the employee. They are often responsible in a general function for the company or entity-wide management of all computer systems and programs-ensuring that new applications and programs are incorporated into the business or entity successfully, as well as maintained, updated, and fixed when problems arise. In a more specialized manner, a computer programmer may apply his/her experience and skills to a project management position or perhaps, specialize all work towards a certain coding and programming communication with computers in a specific industry.
