Cook Resumes


If you are working in the catering trade then you will be aware of how difficult it can be to land some jobs. The key to getting cook work is to have an excellent Cook Resume and cover letter. Only then can you persuade any potential employers that you have what it takes to work in this demanding industry.

Start off your application with a Cook cover letter. This letter will need to demonstrate that you understand the protocol required for things like this. Formally apply for the advertised position, and also give reasons why you should be considered. You should look to mention your years experience working in the kitchen, and if you have any formal culinary training, you should allude to this here.

With the Cook cover letter finished, you need to move onto your Cook Resume. This resume can start with an objective statement which shows what sort of position you are looking for. You should be setting your sights high here, making sure that you follow the job description to make sure that your goals mirror the company for which you are applying.

The following section of your Cook Resume should focus on your skills as a cook. You should indicate how long you have been working in the profession, explain your main areas of expertise within the kitchen, give information regarding your ability to create menus and plan for large occasions, indicate what level you have been working at and show your management credentials, mention any certificates you hold which you have earned whilst working as a cook, Explain your abilities in terms of using common machinery in the kitchen, as well as indicating how many covers you are used to serving.

The next section of your Cook Resume should be for your qualifications. Any certificates that were not mentioned in the previous section can be mentioned here, and you should also list all of your qualifications regarding your status as a cook. If you have a culinary degree then you need to go into detail about the content of the course as well as the particular areas in which you thrived. You can even break the course down in to individual modules to show areas where you excel, such as your ability with pastry or your A la carte skills.

The final section of your Cook Resume should be about your working experience. Try to list all of your positions that you have had as a cook starting with your most recent. You should elaborate on all of your positions, explaining each position, what the job title was, what your duties were, and whether or not you were in a management position in any of them. You can also indicate any particular successes in each post, with information such as increasing overall profitability by sourcing cheaper produce, creating new menus which improved the number of covers per night, or any awards your restaurant was awarded whilst you were working there. In short you need to sing your own praises to make sure you have a good chance of landing that all important interview!
