Counsellor Resumes
If you are a counsellor then you will be aware of how important it is to have had the right training and education in order to progress in this career. You will also be aware that you need to have an understanding of the niche area that you are going to be working in. If you are looking to apply for a new counselling position in the near future, you need to make sure that your Counsellor Resume and cover letter exhibit the right information to make sure that you are considered for the post.
You should start off any application with a Counsellor cover letter. Formally apply for the position, and then give reasons why you should be given the opportunity to be interviewed for the post. You should indicate some of your qualifications and experience to show that you are a suitable candidate.
Follow your Counsellor cover letter with your resume. This should start with an objective statement which shows what sort of work you are hoping to do. Make sure that your goals match those of the company for which you are applying. If they are looking for a counsellor specialising in the treatment of youths in the community, then you need to say that you want to help young people with personal problems.
The following section of your Counsellor Resume should be a summary of yourself as a candidate. This means stating the number of years you have been working in counseling, highlighting your successes in certain areas of counselling, such as a good track record with patients suffering from depression, you can also mention any committees you have been involved with which have shaped the way counselling is conducted in your area, and you can also list some of your certificates such as a Certified rehabilitation counsellor certificate.
The next section of your Counselling Resume should be about your employment history. Start with your most recent position, and work backwards. You should be providing plenty of information about each position you have held, mentioning what was expected of you in each role. You can discuss the number of patients you were expected to see, whether or not you had to do out visits or if all of your work was office based, and what area of counselling each position entailed.
The final section of the Counselling Resume should be about your qualifications. You will already have mentioned some of your certificates in previous sections, but here you should be discussing your degree, or if you are fortunate enough, your masters or PhD. You will be expected to at least have a degree in psychology, or a masters or PhD in pshychology with a different major. Explain areas of the course which have benefitted you most and try to use the qualifications to demonstrate your knowledge counselling, chosen field of work.
