3 Differences between Curriculum Vitae and a Resume

If you’re like many people who are applying for new jobs in this tough market, you may not know the difference between the curriculum vitae and a resume? The two are similar in some ways but there are 3 main differences between the CV and the resume. These are listed below:

1. The curriculum vitae is longer and instead of just listing everything in order it explains all of your educational and work history in detail. Even the courses that you took to prepare for the type of job you’re applying for will be discussed in detail.

2. They’ll both include the basics such as personal and contact information, educational background and work history. However, the CV adds a lot more. It will list this basic information in more detail and it adds more categories such as an introduction, special training, awards, publications and personal interests sections.

3. The resume can be used for any position but the curriculum vitae are only used when applying for professional fields such as, academic, scientific, educational and so forth. They would be too detailed for many positions but necessary when the employer needs to know everything they can about you to make an informed decision when choosing between candidates. It can be used when applying for grants and fellowships as well.

When companies request a curriculum vitae don’t make the mistake of sending them a resume. As you can see, there is a big difference between the two and your resume probably won’t be accepted.
