Decorator Resumes

As a decorator, a lot of your previous work will have been one off jobs for people, but that doesn’t mean you cannot include this information in your Decorator Resume. The best Decorator Resumes are full of your experience in the work place and your qualifications to do the job. Make sure you include all the work that you have carried out in the past in order to show just how experienced you are.

Start off your application with a Decorator cover letter. You should use this letter not only to apply for the job on a formal basis, but also to justify your application. Here you can mention highly relevant experience and qualifications you might have.

You should start this with an objective which both states what sort of work you are looking for, as well as showing your current level of achievement. You can say that you would like to build on your already strong experience by working in such a well respected location in order to redesign interiors and carry out full redecoration. Make sure though, that what you say is relevant to the post for which you are applying.

The next section of your Decorator Resume should focus on what you believe you can offer in terms of skills. You can mention that you are adept at fine brush work and large spaces when painting, you could also mention that you have certificates for carpentry and you might be a member of one of the carpentry institutes for professionals. Anything like this will add something to your application, and take you away from being an odd job tradesman.

The following section of your application should focus on your working experience. If you have previous experience working for large companies, then you have an advantage from the offset, but those of you who have done mostly private work as one off jobs for people, you can still condense many of these jobs into your experience section. Mention that you have been working for yourself for a number of years and that in your time you have entirely redecorated a modern detached family home, you have done redecoration and painting work at a local school, and you have also carried out designs for the local hospital which you then saw through to carrying out the physical work. This sort of thing will show that you are well organised enough to work without continuous monitoring, and it might even put you in better stead for the job.

The final section of your Decorator Resume should focus on your qualifications. If you have an associate or bachelor degree in anything such as design, carpentry or something in this area, then you will be well placed. However, if you do not hold something like this, then you can pick up certificates in most of the disciplines associated with decoration, such as painting, plastering and carpentry.
