Drafter Resumes

As a drafter you will know all about the competitive nature of the role. There are many qualified drafters out there, so in order to be able to land the best jobs you need to be able to draw up a really great Drafter Resume and cover letter.

You should start any application with a Drafter cover letter. This is an accepted and expected part of any application, and the purpose is for you to formally apply for the job. You can also give a couple of reasons why you should be considered for the position too, but make sure you keep it brief.

Once the Drafter cover letter is out of the way you can make a start on the Drafter Resume. This resume should start off with an objective which shows what sort of role you are looking for as your next career move. Try to make sure that you follow the job description and make sure your objective is relevant to this. You can use this to extol some of your virtues in the job, by explaining that you are looking for a role which will push your already excellent skills as a draftsman, and a role in which you will be able to demonstrate your Computer aided design work to the full.

The next section of your Drafters Resume should focus on your skills in the role. Mention the number of years you have been working as a drafter, and then go on to list your attributes for such a role. You can mention your ability working with Archicad, and various other architectural and draftsman related computer programs, and you should also mention your ability to work away from computers on more old fashioned drafting tools. You should mention your ability to price jobs, to produce working drawings from sketches, and your ability to create from scratch eye catching and ground breaking designs in a variety of areas.

The following section of your Drafter Resume should be about your previous jobs in this career. You should start with your most recent position and work back from there. Be sure to expand upon each post, mentioning what was expected in each role. Mention if you were in a supervisory role, whether or not you were expected to start off the creative process or you were there to put the finishing touches on plans already drawn up roughly. Discuss your computer use in each position, mentioning the individual programs that you used. If you can, highlight any design work that you carried out for buildings which were successfully completed and which have a reputation for being well designed.

The final section of your Drafter Resume should focus on your qualifications. Having a degree in Architectural drawing will put you in great stead for consideration for any job, but if you don’t have this, you can obviously list things such as technical training for Archicad or other computer aided design programs.
