If you are a new grad from college, you may be wracking your brain to try to understand what goes in a resume and what doesn’t. With all the rules and categories and your obvious lack of work experience; you know that you have to get the format and content just right if you are to impress a perspective employer at the company you are seeking employment from. This said, should you include your GPA or grade point average from the college or university that you attended?
Honestly, there is no right or wrong answer to this-as always it depends on the particular candidate; but rules that typically afford a recent graduate-and really any situation for that matter-if it is positive information that could help the matter, be sure to include it. If it is an average score or less, omit it; as it might very well hurt your chances of getting an interview and the job you are applying for.

The main route to follow as regards both the major and minor GPA’s that you may have to offer is that a GPA should be offered only as a piece of information-in lieu of work history. This is not to say all GPA’s should be included-only extremely high GPA’s should be included, and they should not be included after you have worked in one to two jobs since graduation-because then you will have experience in your field.

Though touched upon previously, the main route of conduct for not including a GPA in a resume is if the student has anything less than an exceptional GPA. Moreover, if you minored in a particular field of study but it has nothing to do with the industry in which you are applying-listing the GPA is useless. Lastly, if you have the work experience under your belt; listing the GPA will look needless and sloppy.
