Everyone has one it seems, and everyone knows how to draft one-but perhaps, you aren’t sure exactly what one is and how it gets you the job of your dreams. If this is your first foray into creating a resume, perhaps, prior to studying the different formats and samples of such a piece of data; you’d like to know exactly, what one is; as well as what the purpose of one is. In this section, we examine the basic definition of a resume.

A resume is basically a means of listing all of your experience, qualifications, and education-as well as any other pertinent information in your professional history-that best qualifies you for a job you may be applying to. In most all situations, an employer will require a copy of your resume to review your experience in written form.

There are, of course, basic ways to create and format a resume to ensure that it is presented as a formal calling card of sorts, for your value as a hiring entity. This said, if you have never created a resume, you have much research to do for sample resumes, different types of resumes, and resume formats; but first, make a working list of all applicable skills, education, and work experience you have. Once you have done this, you must brainstorm the different skills and valuable experiences and qualifications you have gleaned from both these experiences of education and jobs.
