Geographer Resumes

If you have worked in the position of a geographer in the past then you will understand that it is a technical position which undoubtedly requires training and experience. To land one of these jobs, you will also need to have an excellent Geographer Resume.

You should start off your application with a Geographer cover letter. This cover letter is for the purpose of applying formally for the job, introducing yourself to the reader, and it is also an opportunity for you to give a couple of reasons why you should be considered for the post. You can mention your qualifications and some of your work experience but remember not to go into too much detail because you should be using this information in your Geographer Resume.

Once you have finished your Geographer cover letter you should get to work on your resume. A Geographer Resume should start off with a persuasive objective. This objective should show what sort of job you are looking for, but it should also be used as an opportunity for you to give some more information about some of your strong points in the field of Geography. You could say that you are looking for a position which will enable you to continue your groundbreaking work in the field of GIS Data whilst also being able to work towards a position of management. Something like this will allow you to indicate what sort of work you are looking for as well as showing that you have a niche area within the industry which you specialise in, and you also mention that your career is currently far enough progressed for you to be considered management material.

The following section of your Geographer Resume should be about your working experience. In this section you should list all of your previous positions and make sure that you go into detail about each position you have occupied. Talk about the duties you were expected to carry out in each role. You should be looking to mention more about your work with GIS databases, explaining about your knowledge of the main GIS database software packs. You should also try to mention your knowledge of automated mapping and remote sensing technologies. You could mention here individual mapping systems you may have used, such as the Cadastral mapping system. Remember to highlight any aspect of your previous jobs where you have had particular success, and you should also mention if any of your work has been published in professional journals.

The final section of your Geographers Resume should be about your qualifications. You will be expected to have a Geography degree as a bare minimum, but ideally you will have a master’s degree or a PhD. Try to explain the areas of your course which lead you to your niche within the realm of geographers, and explain which areas of the course were best suited to you.
