Why Good Resume Objectives Are Important
Good resume objectives are needed to help create a resume that stands out and gets attention from the reader. Being one of the first things the reader sees, the objective is a vital part of your resume that should be taken seriously. Good resume objectives are basically short summaries of your profile and goals. They’re used by the reader to get an idea of your direction and intentions.
Employers view hundreds of applicants per day making it impossible to completely read each and every one of them. The objective is your opportunity to get the reader’s attention so he’ll want to learn more about you and continue reading your resume more thoroughly. If the objective is sloppy or doesn’t provide the information the reader is searching for, it’s a good chance he’ll quickly move on to the next one.
Good resume objectives will be short and straight to the point. It will state your intention, highlight your most prominent skills relating to the job you’re applying for and inform the reader what you have to offer the company. All of this needs to be done in two sentences or less. Therefore, you must choose your words carefully.
Think about what would capture your attention before you start writing and search for descriptive words to describe your skills and abilities. Don’t try to be cute or funny in your objective, this is not the place for that. Now that you know why good resume objectives are important and what they should contain, check yours to see if it fits this criterion.
