Green jobs. We’ve all heard of them, and perhaps, most of us have a working idea of what one is; but really, do you? Green jobs are basically jobs that are committed to strengthening the environment through cleaning up of waste, implementing more efficient choices for products and oils, and optimization of everything to minimize the human carbon footprint on the environment.

This said, there are lot of opportunities to create a greener environment as there are so many ways to cut down, prevent, and clean up after non-eco-friendly practices in our cities and towns.

The main goal of green collar jobs is to in some way make the impact on the planet more positive, and to overall protect the environment within the planet for sustainability for the future generations. While not every green job is the same in nature or duties, most all green jobs are characterized by the following inherent goals:

• Creation and generation of renewable energy sources
• Reduces the impact of greenhouse gases, pollutants, and toxins in the environment

• Cuts down on our carbon footprint on the environment
• Helps to restore already damaged ecosystems in the environment

To fulfill these objectives in a wide multitude of job functions brings great positives to both the environment and the people who have chosen a green career for themselves. Now, with funding from the government to build businesses and improve businesses function through new eco-friendly initiatives; the role of the green worker is more than valuable-it is imperative. This said, there are two immediate and central positives from this need for green work in our country:

1. The Economy: the more jobs that are created as a result of greening our less than eco-friendly businesses and functions in this country; the more apt to rebound from the recession and jobless economy the U.S. has had for a few years now. More jobs means more spending means a better more healthy economy-while we are literally, making our environment healthier.

2. The Individual: the more good that a person can contribute is statistically shown to improve their quality of life, person by person. This, in turn, makes for a happier group of workers who might otherwise have been employed in unfulfilling and dreaded dead-end positions. Moreover, most all of the newest positions aimed at a greener environment pay well to start, and to prosper; so that certainly helps the individual lead a happier life as well.
