How Does A Resume Look
Of the many questions that career professionals are asked, one of the most common is just the basic how does a resume look? If you have never written a resume or perhaps, have never written one that gets the interviews for positions you are interested in; it is vital that you know exactly what a potential employer is expecting of your resume, when you apply for a position. Heres what you need to know, as well as an example of what a standard resume looks like:
1. Contact Information: The first expectation of your resume that a potential employer has is that it will contain your full and updated contact information. This means in the header information, you should have your full name, address, phone number, and email address. This is for the purpose of identifying your resume in a stack of many resumes, as well as being able to readily find your contact information to contact you for an interview.
2. Education: Another key element of a professional resume is the section called Education. This should list all of your higher education details from more recent to least. If you do not have higher education, you should list high school information. In this section, you should included the dates you attended your school, the field you studied, the degree you obtained, special courses that you took, as well as any honors worth mentioning.
3. Employment History: Most all resume formats include a section discussed as Employment History. This should list the last ten years of employment you have had, from most recent to least. Each sub section under this section should list dates of employment, name of employer, title of position held, and responsibilities.
4. Achievements/Skills: Though it is not necessary to have an achievements and skills section in every resume; it helps make you look like a well rounded professional that has achieved greatness in related or unrelated organizations. Good examples could be that you were President of the Debate Club or volunteered at a senior citizen home.
