How To Build A Professional Resume
Creating a professional resume for the first time, and no idea where to start? Though you may have had to create a resume before, it does not mean that it was created in a way that made is professional. 1. Use an Objective: One of the key ways that you can turn a standard resume into one that is considered professional is by being as clear as possible as to your career goals and intentions. 2. Use the Appropriate Format: The next step to take in building a resume that is professional is to ensure that you are using the right format for your career experience and situation. There are three basic kinds of resume format, and based on your experience and skills; one will be better for you than the others. There is the functional or skills based format which focuses on a person’s skills and achievements above their employment history. There is the chronological format which is the standard that most people use, which focuses on an applicant’s employment history. Lastly, there is the combination format which highlights both of these areas of the applicant’s career qualifications. Where you offer strengths in your career background should determine which format that you use-and present it accordingly, as it will matter to an employer how it is presented.
3. Use Action Words and Powerful Achievements: To really take the standard resume to new heights and make it professional and exceptional, one should always list important responsibilities and achievements, and do so with powerful words. So, what more specifically, do we mean? Basically, include the most significant achievements and responsibilities that you may have been a part of-such as leading a team to save the company 20% revenue, or bringing in 10% more clients over last year-over the fact that you were did typesetting on a regular occasion. Employers want to see what you did that brought about the most positive influence on the company, so that they can see what value you can bring their company. This said, you need to also introduce these important roles and achievements with action words that really show your participation in these events and roles.
4.
