Account Sales Manager Job Description
The job of an account sales manager involves directing a sales team to achieve maximum profitability and growth of a company. He/she develops feasible plans and strategies to expand the company’s customer base. The job demands organizing, motivating and leading a sales team/s to reach account-specific sales targets. Account sales managers usually are responsible for specific areas (either by location as an area account sales manager, specific products or certain types of customers). He/she may or may not report to an account sales director.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an account sales manager: A successful candidate must possess a BA degree plus over 5 years of sales experience. Larger companies usually prefer candidates with an MBA degree. Experience in marketing is necessary.
Skills of an account sales manager include but are not limited to: Strong leadership and influential skills, high level of sales and technical knowledge, excellent communication skills needed in developing relationships and interacting with clients, peers, and marketing teams, superb research and organizing skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Specific work elements of the job as an account sales manager include: Developing a business plan and sales strategy, ensuring company goals are met, coordinating plans within teams, assisting in the development and implementation of marketing plans, conducting reviews with account executives, maintaining accurate records of sales and activity reports, controlling expenses to meet budget guidelines, conducting coaching with account executives, and maintaining contact with clients to ensure high levels of client satisfaction, among others.
