Accounts Manager Job Description
The job of an accounts manager is to take charge in expanding and maintaining the customer base by analyzing and meeting financial goals of customers. He/she negotiates and closes deals with clients, identifies accounts which are not profitable and recommends new accounts, develops relationships with key users, supervises product marketing teams to get customer feedback, and conducts account reviews to determine trends and client needs. An accounts manager should also analyze industry trends, prepare annual sales budget and advice about measures to maintain or increase profits.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an accounts manager: A successful candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in business studies, management, administration or equivalent and at least 5 years working experience in a related field. MBAs are a plus. Most companies prefer candidates with experience as a sales executive, sales support coordinator or account manager.
Skills of an accounts manager include but are not limited to: Ability to communicate effectively with people of all levels, strong business ethics and excellent negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills, proven accounting experience, ability to motivate others and work in a team environment, and computer proficiency.
Specific work elements of the job as an accounts manager include but are not limited to: Prospecting new accounts and managing existing accounts, meeting or exceeding set revenue goals, identifying problems with accounts where revenue is decreasing and formulating strategies to increase financial goals, identifying pricing to meet customer needs, conducting rate reviews and gathering market trends and information to boost company margins, among others.
