Accounts Payable Manager Job Description
The job of an accounts payable manager involves coordinating activities needed in ensuring the accuracy of a company’s accurate accounts payable system based on set policies and procedures, which is needed to help a company take advantage of discounts and cash flow.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an accounts payable manager: A successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, at least two years experience in accounting, accounts payable or any related field and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
Skills of an Accounts Payable Manager include but are not limited to: Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines; strong grasp of mathematics, finance, economics and their applications, high-level of proficiency in various computer applications, solid financial analysis and problem-solving skills, superb organizational skills and proven ability to train, lead and motivate. The accounts payable manager must also be detail-oriented, and up-to-date with market trends.
Specific work elements of the job as an Accounts Payable Manager include but are not limited to: Planning, scheduling and directing the work of an accounts payable department; developing and implementing procedures and methods to monitor work activities; analyzing department budget to determine budget needs or reductions; establishing procedures and policies to improve effectiveness of the accounts payable unit; determining amount of credit to be extended and recommending amount of working capital needed to finance accounts payable; and managing customer claims, among others.
