Actor Job Description
An actor portrays characters and interprets these roles to an audience through body language, movement and speech. The job of an actor is to inform or entertain audiences for motion picture, radio, stage, television or other types of productions. Work involved varies significantly on the type of job, such as improvisation, modulated voice for radio dramas, and other tasks.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an actor: A successful candidate does not require education background, but must have exceptional acting skills. Employers often gauge the skills of an actor through auditions or casting calls. Work activities vary from acting job to acting job, depending on the needs of a company or casting director – work experience from a recommended type of medium may benefit the candidate actor.
Specific work elements of the job as an actor include but are not limited to learning lines, rehearsing, studying specific characters or undertaking training (physical, speech or accent, etc) to help prepare for a part, and promoting projects on various media platforms. The actor must read through a teleprompter or memorize lines; work as a director or follow the instructions of a writer or director. Acting may also branch out to modeling, voice-acting or working as an extra for film or television.
