Administrative Assistant Job Description
An administrative assistant performs all basic tasks in an office environment, including manning telephones, drafting correspondences, receiving messages, preparing statistical reports, maintaining his/her supervisor’s calendar, arranging meetings, conducting research, entertaining clients, providing support to his supervisor and performing other clerical functions.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an administrative assistant: A successful candidate must possess a high school diploma and should have completed training programs or courses in office administration. Larger companies may require a candidate to possess a 4-year degree in Business Administration or other related field of study, particularly if the candidate will be required to train and supervise lower-level clerical staff.
Skills of an administrative assistant include but are not limited to: attention to detail, exceptional written and oral communication skills, basic computer knowledge, super interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task without fail.
Specific work elements of the job as an administrative assistant include but are not limited to: secretarial duties such as scheduling appointments and arranging travel accommodations, administrative duties such as training new staff members and overseeing projects, as well as clerical duties such as systematizing office equipments. An administrative assistant may also be required to file and retrieve records, reports and documents, coordinate with office services and perform other general office duties and basic bookmarking.
