Advertising Manager Job Description
The job of an advertising manager is to develop, implement and manage a company’s advertising strategies.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an advertising manager: A successful candidate must have a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in business administration, liberal arts, communications, marketing, journalism or other related fields, plus 2 to 4 years of field experience. Larger companies may prefer candidates with a Master’s degree. Some advertising account executives are promoted as advertising managers after years of working experience.
Skills of an advertising manager include but are not limited to: superb oral and written communication skills, creativity and idea generation, excellent interpersonal skills, advanced research and computer skills; knowledge in fine arts techniques, design principles and production processes.
Specific work elements of the job as an advertising manager include but are not limited to: handling sales with sponsor and agencies to find the most effective way of advertising products or services to potential customers, negotiating agreements with sales representatives; managing the production of sales materials; overseeing work of a group of advertising sales executives; performing administrative and advertising department tasks, such as media buying, creating copy or producing media art; analyzing the effectiveness of ad campaigns and determining steps to make after a campaign fails.
