Aeronautical Design Engineer Job Description
The job of an aeronautical design engineer is to develop basic design concepts that are used in the design, develop and production of aerospace or aeronautical systems and products. He/she provides technical support and approved technical data in repairing, modifying and maintaining aircrafts.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an aeronautical design engineer: A successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a specialist aeronautical engineering degree or a related field of study.
Skills of an aeronautical design engineer include but are not limited to: advanced knowledge in engine systems and aircraft structures; a good understanding of thermodynamics and aerodynamics; knowledge of design techniques, engineering principles and mechanical processes used in aircraft; superb analytical and problem-solving skills; advanced mathematical and computer-aided design skills; and understanding of civil aviation regulations and laws.
Specific work elements of the job as an aeronautical design engineer include but are not limited to: studying aircraft defects and suggesting methods of modifications; designing data needed for modifications; designing tools for repairing or maintaining an aircraft and writing instructions on how to maintain, calibrate and use these equipments; overseeing the repairs of aircrafts; creating records related to each design, repair and modification for each aircraft; and taking responsibility for all the approved data.
