Analyst Programmer Job Description
The job of an analyst programmer involves translating requirements for modified or new computer applications into program specifications. He/she must work in installing IT, designing, testing, writing and modifying programs and solve other problems with software.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an analyst programmer: A successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or computer-related field or equivalent technical training. 2-4 years experience in applications programming is a plus. Larger companies may require longer years of experience, a Master’s degree in any computer-related field or certification in specific programming languages.
Skills of an analyst programmer include but are not limited to: expertise in Visual Basic and other databases, Access and SQL server and programming languages such as Java or C++. Extensive knowledge of a variety of operating systems is an advantage.
Specific work elements of the job as an analyst programmer include: getting information from clients or through consultants; analyzing, designing and testing a number of projects based on a given budget; assisting in the development of specifications for data processing systems; preparing and maintaining form manuals needed in implementation of computer application systems; providing technical directions to lower-level computer programming personnel; and performing other related duties depending on project requirements.
