Applications Programmer Job Description
An Applications programmer is responsible for translating software requirements into concise and fully functional programming code. Most applications programmers specialize in specific development environment, such as e-commerce or computer games. These programmers work in a wide range of business sectors, usually as part of an IT team.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an applications programmer: A successful candidate must possess a Bachelor degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience. Depending on the needs of employers, experience in the following fields could be an advantage:.NET, ASP.NET, C-hash, JavaScript, SQL Server, T-SQL and AJAX, extensive knowledge in .NET Framework, Visual Studio.NET, HTML and CSS and familiarity with XML, SOAP and .NET XML Web Services.
Skills of an applications programmer include but are not limited to: knowledge in developing web based and data driven applications; ability to work individually or as a team; excellent written and communication skills needed in working with clients to define requirements; analytical and problem-solving skills.
Specific work elements of the job as an applications programmer include: establishing project timeline based on requirements and budget; translating program specifications into programming language; creating solutions to possible problems; handles program design and testing; overseeing final testing and installing the program; evaluating program’s effectiveness and creating program manuals, among others.
