Graphic Artist Job Description
The job of a Graphic Artist involves producing design solutions to achieve a client’s message through effective visual impact. They find work in various projects, including exhibits, computer games, magazines, book publishing, advertising, websites, and corporate branding, among others.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a Graphic Artist: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in graphic design, fine arts or a similar field. Additional courses in marketing, business, art history and other similar fields can be useful in this line of work. Certificates can also be obtained in technical schools. Continuing education is important to keep up-to-date with new design software programs, technology and other industry news.
Skills of a Graphic Artist include but are not limited to: Excellent written and oral communication skills, advanced degree of creativity and imagination, problem-solving and analytical skills, and insider knowledge in magazine, advertising, videos, publishing and other industries that require the services of graphic designers. He/she must also be highly organized, detail-oriented and thinks out of the box.
Specific work elements of the job as a Graphic Artist include but are not limited to: Creating designs, concepts, sample layouts and other materials; using computer programs to create images, graphs and other types of artwork; assembling final layouts before printing; suggesting improvements to layouts; communicating with clients to discuss project objectives; developing graphics for websites, company logos and product illustrations; taking photographs and producing animated graphics; preparing instructions for staff members; and performing other tasks as assigned.
