Investment Banker Job Description
The job of an Investment Banker involves advising clients about investment options and how to raise money, initiating moneymaking ventures, solving a company’s financial problem through research and developing possible remedies, and managing investments of individual or company clients. Investment bankers may be categorized into three specializations – corporate financier, investment analyst and investment manager.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of an Investment Banker: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, finance, law, accounting, economics, statistics or any business field. Investment bankers must then earn a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) to remain in the field. Continuing education is an important part of this field to stay on top of the game.
Skills of an Investment Banker include but are not limited to: Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, negotiation and persuasion skills, effective written and verbal communication skills and strong knowledge of computer, mathematics and its applications, investment procedures and laws.
Specific work elements of the job as an Investment Banker include but are not limited to: Helping government agencies and companies raise money; assisting in negotiations of mergers and acquisitions; facilitating private placements; managing investment portfolios, handle buying, selling and trading securities; and arranging loans to fund expansion, among others.
