Kindergarten Teacher Job Description
The job of a Kindergarten Teacher involves teaching children ages 4 to 6 about personal hygiene, art, literature, music, natural and social science as well as other activities that help in developing the physical, emotional, social and mental needs of children. He/she takes care of children while in school and develops games or activities to introduce basic educational concepts like mathematics or grammar and observe a child’s progress intellectually and socially.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a Kindergarten Teacher: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in elementary or kindergarten education. Some institutions would prefer those with a master’s degree in education. He/she must be familiar with teaching theories, early childhood development practices, first aid and emergency procedures and other safety measures.
Skills of a Kindergarten Teacher include but are not limited to: Excellent team building and leadership skills, supervisory skills, analytical and problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, stress management skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, sound judgment and good listening skills.
Specific work elements of the job as a Kindergarten Teacher include but are not limited to: Performing school administrative duties; attending staff and parent-teacher meetings; teaching basic skills such as letter and number recognition, colors and shapes, social skills and personal hygiene; establishing and enforcing rules for behavior; evaluating performance, health, social development and behavior of students; instructing individual and group activities; demonstrating activities; organizing educational field trips; preparing teaching programs; maintaining and updating student records; collaborating with other teachers; assigning and grading homework; using various materials and equipments to promote creative learning; and attending educational conferences, among others.
