Math Teacher Job Description
The job of a Math Teacher involves teaching elementary, middle and high school students different mathematics principles. Depending on the education level students he/she is teaching, a math teacher should specialize in advanced algebra, probability, trigonometry, statistics, pre-calculus, geometry and other math studies.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a Math Teacher: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in mathematical science and a teaching certification. To advance in this field, a math teacher can pursue a master’s degree in education.
Skills of a Math Teacher include but are not limited to: Supervisory and leadership skills, time-management and administrative skills, excellent research skills, good written and verbal communication skills, listening skills, organizational and time-management skills, superb teaching skills, and ability to handle challenging behavior, motivate a group of kids and explain things as creative as possible.
Specific work elements of the job as a Math Teacher include but are not limited to: Creating lesson plans, assigning and grading homework, managing students, assisting students individually or in groups, communicating with parents, engaging classes with stimulating discussions, compiling notes; observing student progress; publishing books; creating exam materials based on past lectures; studying and implementing various teaching strategies; and helping students prepare for college entry exams (high school teachers), among others.
