Sales Associate Job Description
The job of a Sales Associate involves selling products and services to interested buyers or purchasing agents, providing customer support, merchandising, generating sales and safeguarding company assets. Sales associates usually spend their time traveling to visit existing clients and prospective buyers.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a Sales Associate: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in sales, marketing or a related field. Travel is an important part of this job, so you must be comfortable to work varied hours as needed.
Skills of a Sales Associate include but are not limited to: Good organizational and time-management skills, excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation and marketing skills, presentation skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, exceptional customer service skills and advanced computer skills. Sales associates must also be a self-starter, proactive and handle long working hours independently and as part of a team.
Specific work elements of the job as a Sales Associate include but are not limited to: Assisting in merchandising, ensuring all customers receive excellent service, assisting in completion of price changes within the department, helping sales staff ring up sales, developing a strong product knowledge, initiating sales opportunities, developing a strong market presence, creating sales plans and reports, preparing renewal contracts, participating in industry events, renewing existing accounts of clients, maintaining customer database, providing updates of job activities to sales director, and providing feedback from clients, among others.
