Senior Accountant Job Description
The job of a Senior Accountant involves dealing with important financial transactions of a company, supervising junior accountants within the department and guiding executives about financial issues or programs a company should follow to achieve financial goals.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a Senior Accountant: A successful candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field, plus at least 4 years experience working in accounting as a supervisor or manager.
Skills of a Senior Accountant include but are not limited to: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, leadership and organizational skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills and extensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices. He/she should also possess high levels of honesty and integrity.
Specific work elements of the job as a Senior Accountant include but are not limited to: Assisting accounting staff with important tasks, providing input into financial goal setting; directing and implementing preparation of financial reports and audits; recommending selection of staff, training junior accountants and supervising accounting team; reviewing and recommending new and modifications of accounting systems or procedures; assisting with preparation of annual audits and other financial reports; performing internal audits of accounts payable, payroll distribution and other activities; monitoring financial activities; and reviewing accounting documents to ensure accuracy of calculations and information, among others.
