SharePoint Developer Job Description
The job of a SharePoint Developer involves building and configuring SharePoint websites using web UI or SharePoint Designer and developing code for SharePoint. They are responsible for developing applications around the core concepts of business process management, collaboration, business intelligence or enterprise content management.
Education/Experience Requirements for the job of a SharePoint Developer: A successful candidate must have a good understanding of C#, .NET Framework, and ASP.NET. Some employers may require SharePoint developers to have a bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related field, while others look for those with Microsoft SharePoint certification such as MOSS and WSS. Many developers learn SharePoint through books and online courses. Important technical skills include SharePoint Server, ADO.NET, VB, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, XML, SQL Server, Web Services, security, instrumentation, exception handling, SharePoint branding and support of large, complex, or enterprise-wide solutions.
Skills of a SharePoint Developer include but are not limited to: Excellent communication skills, technical writing skills, solid presentation skills, management and problem-solving skills, strong analytical skills, leadership skills, customer service skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. SharePoint developers must also be self-motivated, detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
Specific work elements of the job as a SharePoint Developer include but are not limited to: Assisting in project development, defining technical requirements and developing solutions; on-going support for applications; designing and customizing SharePoint solutions; overseeing architectural design and integration content management, portals, collaboration, business process or other solutions; planning and implementing software version upgrade releases; troubleshooting and debugging SharePoint sites; and working as a consultant on SharePoint customization projects.
