As a pharmacy technician you will have to be great with the public and be able to carry out instructions to the letter. Any mistakes in prescriptions can be catastrophic, and you must have great focus and attention to detail. 1. Training. It is not unusual to be able to land a Pharmacy Technician role without specific training, and a lot of places do offer on the job training, but there is no doubt that having been trained previously will help you to get your first position as a Pharmacy Technician. There are many Pharmacy technician courses out there, and you should be able to find ones online that you can take from the comfort of your own home.

2. Get certified. Once you have received the proper training you will be in a far stronger position to be able to take and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certificate, which is awarded by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Passing this will again increase your likelihood of being able to land a Pharmacy Technician job.

3. Start looking for jobs. There should be plenty of pharmacies in your local areas, and you will need to contact them all. The standard procedure here would be to create a resume geared towards pharmacy work. This should be posted to all of the pharmacies in your area, and they should all be followed up by a phone call a week later.

4. Look for work experience. If none of your resumes land you an interview, you can follow up with a letter offering yourself for work experience. This is the perfect way to gain experience, and the week or two you spend working voluntarily may lead to full time work in the long run.

5. Be persistent. Try to get to know the local pharmacists by popping into the pharmacies on a regular basis, enquiring about job possibilities. The more they see of you, the less likely they are to look further afield when a vacancy does eventually materialise.
