A valet job sounds like something that you wouldn’t particularly want to do, but in actual fact it can be a really fun job! You get to drive other people’s cars, and you can make a small fortune in tips! It’s an important job for any hotel or club, and your role will be appreciated. If you think that you can be constantly polite, dress smartly and drive carefully then this could be a great job for you. To find out just how to get the valet job you want, read our tips to help you get a valet job.

1. Make sure you have a valid drivers licence! Of course, you might only be driving on someone else’s land, but it is still critically important that you have a full valid drivers licence. If you really want to get to the head of the queue for jobs, then see if you can pass your advanced driving test.

2. Take out extra insurance. All employers will have insurance for you to drive other people’s cars, but covering yourself to drive other people’s cars will show willingness on your behalf, and it will give your prospective employer the peace of mind that you are taking the job seriously.

3. Be flexible. By this I mean that you have to be prepared – and able to drive any sort of car. It may be that you only drive automatic cars, but you definitely need to be able to drive a stick shift. If you have no experience of this then you need to get some experience of this, and quick! Ask all of your friends who drive to see if they have a car that you can practice in, and failing this, you might have to take a short examination and course somewhere to get up to speed with manual cars.

4. Practice parking. This is going to be the bread and butter of your job, and it is a possibility that anyone offering you a job might want to see you park a car prior to giving you the job. Reverse parking is an art form in its own right, and master it, and you will be a master Valet!

5. Dress Well. All valet’s dress very smartly indeed, given that you are representing a nice Hotel or Club. Make sure that you near this in mind when you go for your interview.
