Finding a job can be a daunting task. It needn’t be too much of a frightening prospect though, because if you know where to look, and how to go about securing a great job, you will be in a good starting position. 1. Analyse the resources you already have. You may not realise it, but many people manage to land great jobs through referrals. You ought to make a list of all the people you know in employment, and contact them one by one. You may not find the exact job that you are looking for by using this method, but it is a great way to start to meet people in business and it is a chance to get your foot in the door.

2. Search the classified sections in your local newspaper. This can be an excellent resource for finding out what the availability of jobs is like in your local area and you might just come across a position that might interest you.

3. Try an Internet search. This can be as broad or narrow as you wish, depending on how specific your job requirements are. You can narrow your search to a specific area geographically, or you can filter your search according to job type.

4. Sign up to local recruitment agencies. These people are experts in finding the right person for the right job and they will match your skills and experience to any of the jobs they have available.

5. Approach companies you would like to work for. Any self respecting manager is always going to admire any job hunter who sends a letter expressing his interest to try and land a job. Just because a company is not advertising for a new position, doesn’t mean there won’t be anything available for you. Staff turnover is high wherever you look, and your letter seeking employment might just land on the desk of someone who has just found that they have a position to fill.
