How to get a Daycare job

Getting a Daycare job can be a wonderfully rewarding position but it is one which requires real responsibility and should not be taken lightly. If you are interested in finding out how to take up one of these posts we have compiled for you several key tips to help you succeed.

1. Find out the local laws. Often, different states have different rules regarding the qualifications required to look after children. Depending on the position within daycare that you are after, you may not need a license at all in some states, but some states will require you to have a license whatever position you would like to take.

2. Fill out the paperwork provided by your caseworker. Your state department will ascribe you a caseworker to help you through the formalities of becoming licensed and you will need to fill out the forms accurately to make sure that you are suitable material for the position. Make sure that you send this back to them promptly.

3. Find out what training you need to carry out. Again, this will vary from state to state, but it is likely that you will have to pass a CPR course for young children and babies. Even if this is not the case we would highly recommend you carry out such a training program which will make you a more attractive proposition at a later date for prospective employers.

4. Search online for jobs. Daycare positions are often advertised online, and there is a strong likelihood that you will find some in your locality with a localised search online.

5. Speak to mother and baby groups. The people attending these know better than anyone where any vacancies might be in daycare groups. You should be able to find out about these groups from your local doctors surgeries or the maternity wards of hospitals.

6. Volunteer. While you are waiting to hear from prospective employers about job positions try to find children’s groups in your local community and volunteer to help for free. This could be invaluable experience for you and it will look great on your resume.

If you can follow all of these tips whilst trying to get a daycare job, then you will put yourself that little bit ahead of the competition when it comes down to it. Try to take as many courses as you can and get ultra qualified. If you manage this, you stand a great chance of landing your dream role.
