How to get a Law Enforcement job

Most Law Enforcement Jobs involve a quite long and arduous recruitment process, and the first rule of applying to this position is to have patience in droves. Here are some other tips to help you through the process and to give you the best possible chance of landing a job in Law Enforcement

1. Find the right role for you. Some people have a desire to work for City or federal agencies, but be aware that it can often be much easier to apply and get a job with smaller police departments where they may only need to see a resume and interview you. At the other end of the scale you can expect applications which can take weeks and months but of course the rewards are greater financially.

2. Look for examples of completed employment applications online. These will help you to fill out the fairly complex fifteen page form which is required by you to move on to the next stage of the application.

3. Be honest about all of your application. Law Enforcement positions allow the highest level of background checks, so don’t be shocked if your recruiters look into your background very heavily. They will probably be contacting your doctor, your old schools and colleges, credit check companies and criminal and traffic records so anything that is not completely accurate in your application will be picked up.

4. Ace the written test. The best way to do this is to start your application through several different agencies. That way you will be able to take several written tests, and you can simply decide to further your application at the agency where you do best in your written test.

5. Get yourself fit. Most departments conduct a physical fitness test, and to pass this you may well have to run or lift heavy objects. It is different with every different agency, but you need to be prepared to be put through the mill.

6. Keep on trying. The whole process can be a really tough, drawn out affair, but it is critical that you don’t give up. Keep working hard, and reapplying when you do not get accepted. In the end you will find something somewhere, and after gaining a bit of experience you will be able to then apply for the positions within Law Enforcement that you really want.

Good luck, be honest and keep your presentation smart!
