How to get a Modeling job

The thought of becoming a model to a lot of people puts in mind a wonderfully glamorous job, but the reality is much different. It can be a gruelling industry to be involved in, and travel and long days are the norm. If you still think that Modelling is the career for you, then we have some pointers below that might help you to find a position.

1. Decide what sort of model you want to be, and make sure that you are suitable for it. There are hundreds of different types of model out there, and what you look like will determine the likelihoods of you getting any work. Decide what sort of model you think you would be best at, and then ask someone close to you for their opinion. Your mother is not the best person to ask, because she will not be subjective. You need to find someone who will be brutally honest with you, because otherwise you could be wasting your time completely.

2. Create a portfolio. Find someone you trust to start taking photographs of you. You can draw inspiration from photo shoots with models you know and admire, and again you must think of the type of modelling you want to do when you are putting your portfolio together. Beyond this you might like to employ a professional photographer to help you with the photography, but this will obviously incur an expense.

3. Start approaching modelling agencies. You should be able to find plenty of these in your local area, but try to get an idea of their reputation before approaching them. See if you can track down any of their current models and ask them about their experiences with therm.

4. Enter beauty pageants. This is a great place to get spotted by talent scouts. If you do well you are sure to get some modelling work or at least some interest from agencies that are in attendance.

5. Be confident. At any casting you get asked to attend, you may be asked to pull faces, laugh, smile, look sad and generally act. You have to have the confidence to be able to do these things, so it is up to you to put the hours of practice in, in front of the mirror until you have the confidence to be able to do this in front of an audience!

Good luck with your modelling career, and keep working hard and follow our advice to further your career.
