How to get a hospital job

Of course there are many different jobs that you can gain in Hospitals these days, from the top Docs down to porters and canteen staff, but here we intend to look at how you can land yourself with a hospital career. Follow these tips to give yourself a fighting chance of finding yourself working in hospital

1. Understand all of the roles a hospital has to offer. There are two ways you can go about this. First of all, you can have a look online. Things might get a little bit complicated and I would recommend limiting your search to your local hospital in order to keep things simple. The other option is to look around the wards at your local hospital making a note of all the departments and areas of the hospital. Once you have completed either of these tasks you can then look into finding out what all the different titles mean! Look these up online, and then try to match your skills and educational qualifications to the jobs to see what position you would be most suitable for.

2. Check the notice boards. In most hospitals there will be notice boards in most departments which will be used to advertise new posts. You can easily go to your nearest hospital to try to find these in order to find out who is recruiting.

3. Register with recruitment agencies. Lots of hospitals use recruitment agencies to do all of their recruiting so it would be advisable to find out which one in your neighbourhood does the recruitment for your local hospital and register with them.

4. Look online. You should be able to find lists of the jobs available at your local hospital online by searching for jobs at X hospital, the X indicating whichever is your local hospital. By doing this you should get results for the jobs available but to be sure you can now conduct a real time search on Google to show recent articles or jobs posted.

5. Start at the bottom. It may be possible for you to quite easily land a position such as cleaner or catering hand at your local hospital, and from this position you will get to know people in the hospital, and this will hopefully lead to a chance to hear about up-coming jobs in the hospital.

Good luck finding a job in a hospital near you. The key is to keep plugging away, and try to follow the advice that you see on this page.
