How to get a job in this economy

Our recent economy might have seen more people getting fired than getting hired, but that doesn’t mean that jobs are not out there. You just need to know where and how to look. Here are a few pointers in order to help you to get a job in this economy.

1. Let people know you are looking. This means all of your friends, all of the contacts you have ever made in your previous jobs, and you should also be asking anyone you know in large corporations to be asking around for you too. You really can’t let too many people know, because someone out there will know someone, or something, which will give you an edge in your search for a job.

2. Revamp your resume. Really this should mean going through the whole thing with a fine toothed comb, and trying to improve on every section. If you are out of work there is no excuse not to devote plenty of time to this because you are relying on it to get you at least an interview somewhere.

3. Upload your resume. There are literally hundreds of sites out there which will allow you to upload your resume. These sites then match you to positions it thinks you will be well suited to. It is a great thing to do which will just tick over in the background for you while you continue looking for jobs.

4. Give your resume to all of the local recruitment companies. Your resume should be on the desk of every single recruitment consultant in your town or you are not trying hard enough. To beat the rest of the field in this economy you really have to cover all of the angles.

5. Expand your job search. By this I mean both in terms of what you are willing to do, and geographically. If you work as a school teacher, you should consider lecturing, or teaching different age groups. If you have previously been looking at jobs within a fifteen mile radius, expand this to thirty miles.

6. Add to your qualifications. If you are out of work you might find that you can get free training which may add to the qualifications you already have, which will make you a better bet for any prospective employer, and it will keep you fresh while you are out of work.

It is not easy in an economy like this, but if you are prepared to work harder than most then there is no reason why you cannot be successful in your job search.
