How to get a job with no experience

We all see jobs in our local papers or on the internet that look great but we just are not qualified for. Most of the time we just turn our backs and continue looking for the same old boring jobs, but there are some ways in which you can maximise your chances of getting a job with no experience.

1. Adjust your resume. You are not going to be doing this to show how qualified you are, instead, try to change your resume so that it shows that you are the sort of person that would be great at this job if only you had the chance to prove it. You can change your hobbies section to fall more in line with the job description for example. You should also try to draw even the smallest parts of your previous jobs into line with this new job in order to persuade the prospective employer that you might be worth a risk.

2. Work hard at getting the interview. For positions where you are not really qualified, getting to the interview stage is the hardest part of all. Get this far and you already know that they will be willing to overlook your lack of experience as long as they think you are the right person for the job or they wouldn’t have asked you in the first place. Make sure a great, passionate cover letter goes out with your resume, and be sure to follow up your application with vigour.

3. Be pleasant and confident. A confident smile can do wonders for you in an interview. It is going to be hard to have a confident air when going for the interview, but plenty of prior research about the role should help you in this respect.

4. Ask probing questions. Don’t spend the whole interview being asked questions yourself. If you can take the focus away from yourself you will learn more about the company and they will admire your ability to control the situation.

5. Show a willingness to learn. Be open to training, in fact you should ask how much training you will be able to undertake, and give indications that you will be happy to undertake this training in your own time. People will always admire you for going the extra mile for them and this could be the sort of thing that just swings it for you.

It is never easy going for a position for which you are not qualified and have no experience in but I believe that with these tips you stand every chance of success.
