How to get a sports job
If you are looking for a business position within sports, then the job that might suit you best is sports management. This is an ever expanding industry which gives a great deal of different opportunities to sports minded individuals with a great business brain. You could be looking at working in health and fitness, sports marketing, athletic administration or sports community relations. All of these fall under the umbrella of Sports management and the one characteristic that links them all is a passion for whichever sport you choose to focus on. In this article we investigate ways in which you can give you the best possible chance of landing a roll in this working arena.
1. Narrow down your margins. This means finding a particular sport, or job for you to focus on. You need to be passionate about the sport, and you need to make sure that this area of the sport is something that you are interested in.
2. Get qualified. For these relatively new and unusual positions, there are a lot of accelerated learning courses that you can find online which will gain you entry into one of these positions. Choose carefully, and make sure that it is accredited to a school that you have heard of.
3. Find work online. It is a good idea to visit sports specific job search sites, such as Jobsinsports.com. This is a site which does actually charge you for joining, but there are plenty of similar options out there which should give you just as much opportunity to find work. Make sure that you upload your resume to as many of these sites as possible.
4. Find forums. You should look out some forums that deal with exactly what area you want to work in. Hopefully if you do this you can become a valued member of the forum offering your expertise to help people out. After a while you will earn a reputation of someone to be relied upon, and word will be out that you know what you are doing. You never know who might be on these forums and this sort of thing could quite easily lead you to getting some work in your chosen industry.
5. Network. You need to join as many sporting clubs as you can in order to get to know the people in the industry. It is often who you know and not what you know in this type of job, and you need to get yourself known.
Good luck with the application, and stay positive!
