How to get a teaching job

When you think of the number of schools across the country you would at first assume that it would be easy to land a teaching job, but that is not the case. With good working conditions and great holiday schedule, many people are now training to be a teacher. Because of this, you really need to be at the top of your game to land the role you want. Here we give you a few hints and tips in order to get a teaching job.

1. Start looking early on. It is a well know fact that most people start their search for a teaching job at the beginning of the year in order to be ready by august. It would be our advice to start this process off in November of the previous year in order to get ahead of the competition. You need to make arrangements to visit national and regional conferences where the interviews normally take place.

2. Think about what sort of school you want to join. There are lots of opportunities for you, and they all differ. It’s important to be clear about your goal in order to seem genuinely enthused when it comes to discussing that position with a prospective employer.

3. Understand your skills and experience. Whether you are new to teaching or you have already taught for a number of years, you need to consider what real skills you have. Even through your training. you yourself will have noticed the areas in which you excel. Be ready to sing to the rooftops your own skills.

4. Beat the deadlines. It is critical that you have everything in on time for a position like this, so we would advise sending in applications a good two weeks before deadline, which will allow you the opportunity to contact the school to make sure they have received it.

5. Be flexible about what you want. It is very hard to find the perfect position, and there may be some areas where you have to bend a little. Understand where these areas are now, so that you are prepared when at a later date.

Good luck with your move into education. It will take hard work and dedication to land your dream role, but by observing these hints, you will give yourself a good head start.
