How Important Is a Job Resume?

If you’ve recently graduated from college or haven’t searched for a job in awhile, you may not realize how important a job resume is. Many people underestimate the significance of this simple piece of paper and they pay for it by not getting the interviews. The bottom line is, the job resume is a crucial part of your job search and without it you could easily be overlooked.

Many qualified applicants have been passed over and lost opportunities to others who are less qualified because they either did not turn in a good quality resume or they didn’t think it was important enough to do at all. This is a shame because it greatly reduces your chances of advancing in your career.

To understand the importance of a job resume, consider the hiring manager’s job for one moment. It’s their responsibility to make sure they hire the best person for the job. They must use the information you supply them with to make this decision. It’s understandable that they’ll look for the most professionally written applications, which are the ones accompanied by a great resume showing information relating to the job at hand.

If all you provide is an application or a poorly written resume and someone else has provided a detailed resume highlighting their credentials, who do you think will get noticed first? The next time you’re applying for a new job, remember how important the resume is. Since the job resume is the first thing the employer will see, it must be presented correctly.
