You can find a lot of advice on how to write a great resume and all the things you need to do but you don’t hear much about what not to do when writing a job seekers resume. Believe it or not there are a few things that will get your resume sent straight to the trash bin and these are the things that you need to avoid.

• Avoid long drawn out summaries or work descriptions that take a long time to read or that are difficult to understand. The employer doesn’t have time to read these. Keep your information brief and to the point.
• Fancy fonts and bright colors look more like a personal letter instead of a resume for an important job position. These are usually not taken very seriously and get passed over for a more mature applicant.
• Adding information that is unnecessary, providing misleading information or sending a job seekers resume that doesn’t match the job description will get yours tossed quickly.
