Account Receivable Jobs

An account receivable job is ideal for someone with skills with numbers who enjoys working in an orderly and efficient way. Every time we pay for anything, from a hat to healthcare, our money will make its way to the desk of someone working in an account receivable job. And because all businesses and services – from the largest multi-national to the smallest local garage – need well-organized people to make sure their income is properly recorded and managed, there will always be many and varied openings in these positions.

Most account receivable jobs are based in an office environment and appeal to people who would enjoy working as part of a team responsible for the day-to-day duties involved in bookkeeping. Almost every bill you open will have been sent by someone working in this field whose job is to recover the money owed for the goods or services that have been provided. As well as sending out bills, an account receivable clerk would also be expected to receive incoming payments and update clients’ accounts.

Personal qualities of integrity and trustworthiness are essential for people who choose this line of work, along with good inter-personal and telephone skills for dealing with colleagues and clients in a tactful and polite way. As office technology grows increasingly more sophisticated, computer skills are usually an essential qualification for an entry-level position. Employers favour applicants who are able to use spreadsheets and word-processing programmes and have qualifications in business, accounting, bookkeeping or mathematics. There are excellent opportunities for promotion in the finance departments of most larger concerns, especially to people willing to undertake further training. Salaries will very according to the size of the organization, but someone in an account receivable job can expect to earn around $38,000 a year.
