An accounting clerk job would appeal to someone with a head for numbers and a careful, orderly approach to their work. It is detailed work, as accounting clerks are financial record keepers and need to be meticulous about their duties on a daily basis. Once hired, accounting clerks usually receive on-the-job training to learn company procedures.

As organizations continue to computerize their financial records, computer software skills are an important asset in helping you secure a post. Most clerks now enter information about receipts or invoices into computers, so the information can be stored electronically.
