Administrative Assistant Jobs

Administrative assistant jobs – sometimes still called secretarial posts – exist at all levels in almost all companies. Wherever you live, there will be a company, organization or just a small business with a pressing need for a good administrative assistant. They are the backbone of commerce, often the key personnel who keep a business on an even keel through their efficiency and attention to detail.

If you are efficient, well-organized, with an eye for detail and are comfortable with today’s office technology, you would probably be suitable for an administrative assistant job. Even better if you are a team player, someone who understands that a happy office is a productive workplace. Good administrative assistants are tactful people, able to deal sympathetically with workmates and members of the public alike.

Where training is concerned, high school graduates with basic office skills may qualify for entry-level secretarial positions. Business schools and community colleges also offer courses in office administration, and many temporary placement agencies provide training in computer and office skills. Once equipped with these skills, you will find a world of opportunity waiting for you – every business, from the smallest office to the largest multi-national concern, relies for its success on the efficiency of its administrative staff.

Once hired, there is a clear route to promotion. Most administrative assistants will acquire more skills by on-the-job instruction, or be chosen to attend classes or take part in online education. People in administrative assistant jobs usually advance by being promoted to other administrative positions with more authority.

With employment in this field projected to grow by at least 11 per cent, administrative assistants will be able to take advantage of a large number of job openings. They can expect to earn at least $29,000 a year.
