Anesthesiologist Jobs

An Anesthesiologist job is one of the highest-paid careers in medicine. If you are interested in a medical career and would like to earn a six-figure salary, this is certainly a field you should consider entering. Working in anesthesiology is one of the most rewarding – and responsible – roles a doctor can fulfil, as a patient’s life can depend on his or her skill.

Someone in an anesthesiologist job needs to be a team player, as they will be working with other doctors and surgeons during the operation process. It is the anesthesiologists’s job to determine the type of anesthetic needed and administer it, as well as monitoring and safeguarding the condition of the patient during and after sedation. These skills call for people with good judgement and excellent training – you will need at least a degree in medicine before being accepted for a four-year residency in anaesthesiology, and will need the ability to work, and study, hard.

There are anesthesiologist job opportunities outside the operating theatre, too. Once qualified, you might choose to specialise in a related field such as pain management, critical care medicine or neuroanesthesia. If you don’t have a degree in medicine but are attracted to the idea of working in a caring profession, you might consider working in an alternative role, by becoming a nurse anesthetist, a job that requires a shorter period of training. Nurse anesthetists can expect to earn high salaries that reflect the skills they bring to this very responsible occupation.

If you excel at sciences and mathematics and are interested in technology, you should consider training to enter this branch of medicine. An anesthesiologist can expect an average salary of $300,000 a year and more, whilst nurse anesthetists are paid around $100,000 per year.
